Summer in the Amazon Reliving Hakuna Matata COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog
Summer in the Amazon Reliving Hakuna Matata COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog During the summer I had the privilege to work with Fundacion Runa in Tena Ecuador. Located in the middle of the Ecuadorian Amazon, Fundacion Runa specializes in commercializing Guayusa (a tea native to the land and sacred to the Quichua Community). Since its creation initiation in 2010, Runa has earned Fair Trade labeling through FAIR TRADE USA due to its organically grown products. The foundation offers different internships directly related to the product including agro-forestry research, social impact studies and community development. As the community development intern, I focused on working with the FAIR TRADE social premium fund. Under Fair trade agreements, 15% of all Guayusa sales must be redirected to the community. Other fair trade organizations have help fund schools, buses to schools and health clinics for women. The purpose of my internship was to establish goals and set deadlines for projects that the Guayusa Co-Operative could work on in the future. My assignment over the two months was to focus on issues pertaining to children and women of the Quichua community. I was able to do research by talking to different members of the community and working with children for three hours every other day. It was difficult at first because of the lack of trust and because most of the work I did set the foundation for the future. I was also able to find resources through local children defense fund and work with them on children issues including rights and harassment. For two months, I was able to witness poverty but also help the foundation set a plan for women and children in the Quichua Community: Immediate necessities include simple first aid kits for each community and operational schools throughout the academic year. I was also able to establish a youth council for teens in Alto Tena with the sole purpose to voice their opinions on how and what to fund for their communities. The youth council will provide a voice to the youth and hopefully allocate funding for things they need: operational schools, health clinics, etc. The work was challenging. I visited communities in the middle of the rainforest; sometimes not accessible through cars or busses. I experienced the Quichua culture: tried delicacies (larvas), checked out the Fincas, learned a couple of words in Quichua and even attended school with the children. The internship solidified my interest in local domestic issues and how to solve them using a different perspective. I was also able to put into practice management techniques learned in class. post submitted by Eder Gaona-Macedo, MPA 2014, concentrating in Urban and Social Policy (USP)

French Subjunctive Irregular Conjugations
While not as difficult as using the French subjunctive, conjugating irregular and stem-changing verbs into the subjunctive can be a little tricky.Stem-changing verbs and most irregular verbs follow the same pattern as regular verbs for the singular conjugations (je, tu, il/elle/on) as well as the third person plural (ils/elles): the subjunctive stem is derived from the present tense conjugation of ils. boire envoyer prendre venir present tense: ils boivent envoient prennent viennent stem boiv- envoi- prenn- vienn- subjunctive endings: boire envoyer prendre venir ... que je -e boive envoie prenne vienne ... que tu -es boives envoies prennes viennes ... quil/elle/on -e boive envoie prenne vienne ... quils/elles -ent boivent envoient prennent viennent However, the nous and vous forms of the subjunctive find their stems in the present tense conjugation of nous: present tense: nous buvons envoyons prenons venons stem buv- envoy- pren- ven- subjunctive endings : ... que nous -ions buvions envoyions prenions venions ... que vous -iez buviez envoyiez preniez veniez This two-stem subjunctive pattern applies to all stem-changing verbs as well as all but seven irregular verbs.Five verbs have irregular subjunctive stems but take the same endings as above: One stem Two stems* faire pouvoir savoir aller vouloir stem(s) fass- puiss- sach- aill- / all- veuill- / voul- ... que je (j) fasse puisse sache aille veuille ... que tu fasses puisses saches ailles veuilles ... quil/elle/on fasse puisse sache aille veuille ... que nous fassions puissions sachions allions voulions ... que vous fassiez puissiez sachiez alliez vouliez ... quils/elles fassent puissent sachent aillent veuillent *These two verbs have different stems for je/tu/il/ils and nous/vous.And finally, two verbs have irregular stems as well irregular endings: avoir tre ... que je (j) aie sois ... que tu aies sois ... quil/elle/on ait soit ... que nous ayons soyons ... que vous ayez soyez ... quils/elles aient soient

Diva Momma Gives A Fierce Performance Free Essays
Beyondgââ¬â¢s vocal ability and potential, she proved them wrong to do so, when she performed at the Super bowl half- time show with approximately about 12 minutes of booty-shaking, body grinding, hair-tossing and GIRL POWER! They were definitely wrong to say so, as not a single yawn was let out. No one peeped out a word during it as everyone was completely entranced by Honey Beeââ¬â¢s cabinetmaking performance. Everyone at the edge of their seats wondering what song she will sing next. We will write a custom essay sample on Diva Momma Gives A Fierce Performance or any similar topic only for you Order Now And every single time, she didnââ¬â¢t disappoint her fans, not one bit. In fact, she got them even more excited, got them screaming and shouting her lyrics back at her throughout the whole performance. The Stage setting and special effects intertwined in elegance and awe. It was very well organized and clearly was thought through for weeks, even months! The lighting was so effective, while adding flavor to Beyondgââ¬â¢s performance and still managed to keep the focus on her! My favorite special effect though was when a guitarist (who rocked everyoneââ¬â¢s socks off by the way) came out of nowhere and had sparks coming out of it, while Beyond was right beside it wowing off the vast variety of pitches she can belt out. Was captivated. Her outfit was very bold and out of this universe. She wore a cropped black leather motorcycle jacket and a leather bodysuit made with strips of python and iguana, with some lace. It was like a womanââ¬â¢s modern warrior outfit. Itââ¬â¢s already fierce enough as it is, but to put Bye in it? The fierce-meter is about to explode! Honey Bee looked rather smashing and wore it as if to remind everyone in the audience that she is one sexy, sexy woman, because, we didnââ¬â¢t know that already. Her song choices were very clever as they were all well-known which allowed the audience to sing/scream along. It included ââ¬ËCrazy in Loveââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËEnd of Timeââ¬â¢ and 3 songs which she sang with her ex-group members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. They literally came shooting up out of the underground, and blew everyone away when they performed ââ¬ËSingle Ladiesââ¬â¢. Best surprise in Super-Bowl Half-Time Show history. The choreography was flawless and they showed that ââ¬ËDivaââ¬â¢ is really a ââ¬Ëfemale version of a hustlerââ¬â¢ if you know what I mean! Although Kelly and Michelle ere on stage with Beyond, Beyond was still everyoneââ¬â¢s focus. No one can ever steal her spotlight! Singing Halo as her last song was an epic conclusion. She managed to belt the notes effortlessly, proving herself once again, to be the Queen of RAN. The show was the sexiest Super Bowl Half Time show since 2004 when Janet Jackson had a ââ¬ËWardrobe malfunctionâ⬠. Yikes! From beginning to end, the singer didnââ¬â¢t let motherhood get in the way of delivering an energetic performance that killed! And most importantly, she had now silenced her doubters. Children will be trained and able to compete in local and regional tournaments. And, above all, for everybody involved! Positive Reinforcement Positive reinforcement is a long held approach to children. It is praising a child for what avgas done right. Positive Reinforcement is often used with Specific Positive feedback, Or addressing a technique or a part of One that was preformed properly. After praising, you address any other areas that may still need improvement. Clear communication is the key when critiquing technique. It is also important to understand that what you intend to say and what is heard by a student are two different things. This is especially the case when you have many students. Shootout Instructors should try this approach: 1. Start every comment with something that was done well. 2. Correct the problem with a challenge 3. End with encouragement Teaching Strategies In Shootout Karate many of our movement include both Gross and Fine Motor skills. The large motion of a kick uses gross motor movement: while the recession to strike a small target consistently is fine motor skills, and eye to foot coordination. To develop these skills it is often helpful to break them down into parts for the child to practice. One of the best times to do this is during warm up. Inclusion of gross motor skill and fine motor skills will improve a childs ability to use both together in class later. Examples of great exercises for children include: Bear walks, monkey jump/ cartwheels, donkey kicks, crab walks, grass hoppers and more. These exercises can be used at the beginning Of a class to get the energy level up and prepare for stretching. All of these exercises use large muscle groups and gross motor skills. Use these instead of running prior to class or mix the two. It is important to note that different exercises use different sets of muscles, so mixing it up improves over all muscle tone and ability. Fine Motor skills are a little harder to nail down. These movements involve much smaller exercises. Exercises that work particularly well in Shootout Karate involve hitting small points during an exercise. Filling Balloons with air and have students throw them to each other, or fill them with helium and anchor them, one if front of each student. For striking the slower movement of the balloon will teach them to track a target that is moving. When creating a lesson for children, having a games session at the end of class as a teaching tool is a good aid. Games often time include critical thinking skills, gross and fine motor skills, as well as coordination, tracking and team work. Games come in many varieties, and often can be done with equipment you already have. A few examples are dog hockey using focus mitts and feet or blockers to play hockey, or playing horse stance freeze tag the foot game where students are divided in to teams, hand placed behind backs, and each team seeks to eliminate the other by stepping gently on the others toes (not using the heel). The last team still in wins! These games take between 5-10 minutes and not only increase satisfaction of the child or children, but increase specific skills. Conclusion For any Shootout Karate instructor to be effective they must learn to be a facilitator in their dog. As a facilitator, they will guide their students through the techniques in order to assist the students in their own discoveries, Teachers or instructors must always remember that all students are capable of learning, and all students have something to contribute to the dog environment. Defining teaching as facilitating learning implies that while considerations of knowledge transfer are no doubt important, they are valuable only in relation to the quality to learning that they trigger. .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 , .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .postImageUrl , .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 , .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:hover , .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:visited , .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:active { border:0!important; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:active , .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432 .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u439fe49d3825b8dd4f2ea0f4fa4b5432:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Critical Thinking EssayIt the teaching activities do not result in learning there has been no teaching, Likewise, if the learning is lacking in quality, the teaching is unsuccessful to that extent Finally, there are modes other than that of knowledge transfer which can play a more effective role in the triggering of learning.
